About Us
Our History to date
We set up our partnership 'Rags To Riches
Racing' in 2002, through a common interest in
racing and horses in general. Our first horse was
'Positive Image' known as Aspen. She was a
home bred filly pictured right. A quick mover and a
possible sprinter, but unfortunately on her first run
in a 3-y-o maiden at Windsor she broke down
badly and had to put down. Well as one can
imagine we were absolutely devastated. We had
owned Aspen since she was a yearling and had
known her all her young life. We had planned to
race her for a few seasons then she would be a
hack or possibly a broodmare.
Our trainer kindly offered us the lease of Aspen's
stablemate 'Formidable Stella', pictured with
Aspen. But although a very tough horse was not
mentally cut out for racing, formidable was not her
nature so she was found a loving home.
In the meantime Zoe had purchased a tall ganqly
grey filly called 'Zaffre'. Again we were offered the
lease. Zaffre, by Mtoto was bred by Sheik
Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Zaffre was
considered too weak as a youngster but with
patience she blossomed. We were delighted
when winning first time out in a bumper at
Warwick. It was not long after that our current
horse 'Code' turned up at the yard. A bloodstock
agent, who purchased Code at the sales, was at
one of the yard's opendays and showed us Code.
Well, the minute we saw him, it was love at first
sight. The task was then to convince our members
to buy him before he went back in the sales.
Zaffre went on to another syndicate and has since
won and been placed over hurdles, but dietry
problems forced Zoe to consider retiring her and
is currently in foal to Khayasi.
Code, we had high hopes for, he showed so
much promise in his earlier races. After two wind
operations and a leg operation and a long layoff
he never recaptured the enthusiasm when
starting back earlier this year, so it was decided to
retire him to pastures new. He has now been
retired to the Isle Of Wight, home of Glenn
(manager) and Simone Morley. He will remain
here as a hack and pet.
As many partnerships and syndicates come and
go as do members, people join for all sorts of
reasons, we strive to keep ours going, mainly
thanks to the efforts of loyal members and a very
understanding trainer. Most small syndicates do
not make any money as is mostly outweighed by
the costs to keep a horse in training. We love our
racing and above all love our horses, they always
come first as without them there would be no
racing.
our motto;
'to enjoy the thrill of racing,
any success is a bonus!'
We are a friendly bunch,
come and visit the yard
which is situated in Ashurst
Wood near East Grinstead,
look forward to meeting
you.
